Q. Are Scholarships available?
A. Interested and generous members of the First Presbyterian Church and other patrons have made our scholarship program possible and we are deeply grateful. The PDS Scholarship Endowment Fund provides scholarship assistance for worthy students in financial need. Scholarship applications may be picked up in the school office. Applications are due by November 15, along with a current tax statement. Scholarships will be awarded for the following school year.
Q. What is the pupil to teacher ratio?
A. On the average, classes do not exceed 20 students. Teachers’ aides assist in the pre-school classes.
Q. How does PDS rank scholastically?
A. Students in five-year-old kindergarten through sixth grade are tested every spring using the Stanford Achievement Test, Tenth Edition. Students in second and fifth grade are also given the Otis Lennon Mental Ability Test. PDS tests scores, on average, fall in the 75th to 85th percentile or consistently above the national average.
Q. What are the educational requirements of PDS teachers?
A. Teachers are required to have a Class A Certification and most are working toward or have a AA Certification. While 10% of the faculty must have a AA Certificate to comply with minimum accreditation standards, the majority of our teachers at PDS hold this distinction.
Our teachers bear a great responsibility for instilling in their students the joy of learning and the satisfaction of successfully completing individual and group tasks. They strive to accomplish this in a classroom environment that conveys God’s love and care for each student.
